Join Blau House & Gardens and the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra for an enchanting afternoon in our shaded woodland gardens. Begin with an expert-led tour of our historic grounds, then settle in among the flowers for a performance by the Quantum Leap String Quartet. Bring your own picnic to enjoy yourself anywhere before the concert—please leave no trace when you go.

Tickets:

  • Garden tour only: $25 (plus fees)

  • Concert only: $75 (plus fees)

  • Full experience (tour + concert): $100 (plus fees)

Parking & Shuttle:
Park at Coleytown Elementary School (65 Easton Road) between 4 – 8 PM. Complimentary shuttle service to the gardens; handicapped parking available on-site (please contact hosts in advance).

Tour the gardens, then relax under the trees with your own picnic before the performance begins—please leave no trace when you go.

Unlocking Secrets of the Past from Tree Rings

Have you ever looked at a tree stump and noticed its rings? Each ring tells a story about the tree’s age and the changing world it grew up in. Join us at Blau House & Gardens as dendrochronologist Caroline Leland, from the Tree-Ring Laboratory -Columbia University. shows you how scientists study tree rings—from gathering samples in nature to exploring them in the lab. Learn how these natural records reveal clues about ancient climates, wildfires, storms, and discover why the great white oaks of Blau House & Gardens are some of Westport’s most valuable cultural treasures.

After the program you are free to roam around the garden for an hour till 12:30.

Soil Is Alive!

Healthy soil means healthy plants, no matter what type of gardening you do.

Duncan Himmelman, educational horticulturist and advisor for Blau House & Gardens will present how you can build healthy soil by paying attention to soil structure, nutrient cycling, and supporting the living components of soil. Leave with an understanding of the value of compost and its role in keeping soil alive!

Duncan Himmelman received his doctorate in Ornamental Horticulture from Cornell University and taught horticultural science at the college level for 24 years. He recently retired as the education manager at Mt. Cuba Center, a public garden in Delaware devoted to native plant advocacy. He continues to enjoy teaching, designing landscapes, and promoting ecologically focused gardening practices.

Children’s book author and illustrator Guy Billout will read to ages 3 - 8 from one of his works, followed by a book signing and scavenger hunt through the gardens. 11 am – 12:30 pm.

Printmaking in the Garden

Join us for a Printmaking Activity + Garden Tour in partnership with the Center for Contemporary Printmaking and Blau House
& Gardens.

$10 Registration Fee covers Garden Tour, Admission and Materials

While enjoying a tour of the gardens, guests will be invited to collect botanical materials for a Gelli Plate Printmaking activity. Staff and volunteers with the Center for Contemporary Printmaking will guide participants in creating unique artworks with leaves, petals, twigs and more from this inspiring landscape.

Suitable for all Levels and Ages (older children welcome with an adult)

Rhodo Rendezvous - A Captivating Exploration of Rhododendron Wonders

Experience an informative panel discussion on rhododendrons at the Carriage Barn Art Center in New Canaan complemented by a box lunch, and followed by a guided tour of two gardens with rhododendron blooms that include the Melquist garden at Bartlett Arboretum & Gardens and Blau House & Gardens.
